About WTT Springton Local League

World Team Tennis is played with a minimum of two men and two women per team. A match consists of six sets, with men’s doubles and singles, women’s doubles and singles, and two sets of mixed doubles.

In Delaware County, Pennsylvania, we have the option of playing singles first, followed by doubles and then mixed doubles as long as both teams agree - a coin toss will be used if the teams can not agree. This allows for play to be uninterrupted. The national rule is to start with doubles followed by singles and then mixed doubles. At the end of the match if time permits, a second singles match can be played, which does not count in the match score.

Our two seasons are 12 weeks long with each team playing 7, 8, or 9 times. This allows us to schedule a league with 4, 5, 6, or 7 teams.

It is our goal to get 8 or more teams in each level of play. When this happens we will split into 2 divisions, with stronger teams in the upper division. Because there is a wide range of skill level within the 3.5 rating, for example, this will allow teams to be more evenly matched. While winning is important, tennis is most exciting when you are evenly matched.

At the end of our first season (12 weeks) the team at the bottom of the upper division will move to the lower division and be replaced by the winning team from the lower division.
